Urge Congress: Don’t gut clean water protections

A 400-page federal bill backed by the oil and gas industry would dramatically weaken some of the nation’s most important environmental protections.

The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (BAAJA) would undercut the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and the Endangered Species Act. That includes protections for threatened species like the Hudson River’s iconic Atlantic sturgeon and endangered whales off New York’s coast.

If BAAJA becomes law, it would also limit the public’s ability to hold the line against pipelines, power plants, and other big projects that could harm the environment, and it would let big businesses rely on outdated pollution control technology.

Tell your senators and your representative that gutting these protections is a bridge too far.
