PFAS Discharge Disclosure Act

The PFAS Discharge Disclosure Act (A5832-B/S4574-B), would require testing for PFAS “forever chemicals” in discharges to waterways like the Hudson River. Communities have a right to know what’s entering their rivers, streams, and other sources of drinking water, and the bill would make that information publicly available — an essential step for developing science-based policies to stop PFAS at the source.

PFAS are a type of chemical that doesn’t break down in the environment and poses serious health risks, including cancer and developmental harm. When PFAS contaminates drinking water, communities face both severe health threats and costly cleanups. The best way to protect public health is to prevent PFAS pollution at the source, and to better understand the scale and scope of the sources of these chemical discharges.
